like most lazy americans, one of my favorite things to do over the holidays is watch movies. like, a lot of movies.
i also love to watch movie TRAILERS. in fact, i’ll often force anyone in my general proximity to sit with me at the computer so we can watch all of the upcoming trailers on the apple page and then discuss their awesomeness/horribleness and then rewatch our favorites so we can squee and fist pump at the appropriate moments. just like watching a movie but way shorter!
this is an especially appropriate activity around christmas, cos so many good movies trailers are coming out! consequently, today i’ve decided to have a little trailer party with pants world, because you are ALL in my general proximity thanks to the internet! muhaha!
first up, the newest trailer and the one i cannot stop watching cos OMG FACE MELTING: IRON MAN 2!

best moment: pepper kissing the helmet! EEEE!!!
most fist pumping element: AC/DC WHAT WHAT!!!! i know it’s fratty and cliche but i can’t help it. just ask anyone who’s ever been near me when “if you want blood” comes on.
whoah moment: hey it’s gary shandling!
Y’ALL WHEN WILL IT BE MAY? PLEASE TELL ME IT’S V. SOON.
next up: tim burton’s “alice in wonderland”!
best moment: the piggie footstool! i kinda want one. is that considered animal cruelty?
most fist pumping element: helena bonham carter’s eyeshadow. LOVE. IT.
whoah moment: that chesire cat gives me the heebie jebbies. i mean, he’s supposed to but YIKES.
ok, so i’ve been itching for this trailer for a while, and it’s finally here: “the runaways”!
best moment: when i realized i am totally gonna be dakota fanning from this movie for halloween next year. yes!
most fist pumping element: um, everything cos THIS MOVIE IS ABOUT ROCK ‘N’ ROLL.
whoah moment: does that bathwater look gross or WHAT?
and, finally, the trailer for ridley scott’s “robin hood”:
best moment: when i remembered that cate blanchett is playing maid marian. SWEET.
most fist pumping element: when the trailer reminded me that ridley scott directed “gladiator” and then russell crowe came yelling out of the water and YES BRING ON THE RIDICULOUS BADASSERY!
whoah moment: is that stanley tucci?!! wait, no, it’s not. ok.
so what did you guys think? thumbs up? down? leave yr thoughts in the comments and it’ll be like a thumb war! yeah!
oh and did i miss any new good ones?
LINKS
i meant to include this in monday’s post, but have y’all seen the little boy from “up” like… IN REAL LIFE?!! ADORBS X 1000!
check out yann tiersen playing the amelie theme on some iphones! now THAT is some magic technology.
Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou!! I absolutely adore trailers and since I have only been to the movies once this year, I miss out on all the new and good ones. This post is definitely on my Posh Top Ten Post list.
I’m going to have to tell the truth because there is no greater place for truth than the internets, right?
I’m not excited for Alice in Wonderland. I know, I am in the minority. I haven’t been stoked about a Tim Burton movie in years. The last one that I was really into was Ed Wood and that was in 1994! I love the old Tim, and I fear he is going the way of Peter Jackson.
I also am not excited for Robin Hood. I really don’t like Russell Crowe, but Cate will most likely get me to see it. I love her. Definitely in my top 5 actresses. I was told that the Ridley Scott originally wanted to do it where the Sheriff is actually Robin Hood. Thankfully Ridley didn’t go that far!
I sound like such a downer! Just to give you some perspective, I’m not a huge action fan…more of a moving drama sort of gal.
But, I am with you, PD, I love me some trailers. I can’t get enough of them! Here are the trailers that I got super duper pumped about…
Ah, my sweet, sweet Leo: http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony/thelaststation/
Tom Ford, what? http://www.apple.com/trailers/weinstein/asingleman/
um, sally, all you needed to say was JAMES MCAVOY YES YES Y’ALL!
plus helen mirren? christopher plummer? paul giamatti?!
i mean, i was already sold by j-mac, but those other guys are like, cream cheese frosting on the cake.
Is it bad that I don’t really know James McAvoy? I recognize him, but I would never be able to come up with his name. I was just so excited about Mirren and Plummer. Does that make me somewhat geriatric? Should I have my inner organs checked for hardening?
michelle, i’m really glad you enjoyed this post! esp. cos it only took me like 20 minutes to write!
and, since you said you don’t get to the movies much, i want to make sure you’ve seen the trailer for “up in the air” cos it comes out soon (finally!) and IT WILL BE AWESOME:
http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/upintheair/hd/
as for you, sally, i think we need a movie weekend STAT cos hello, have you not seen “becoming jane”?!! i guarantee that movie will reinvigorate yr, uh, youthful parts.
What about the Clash of the Titans? I think it you have to have seen it as a kid to be as super excited as I am about the remake.
This post made me SQUEE OUT for several reasons:
1) Sarah and I totally bonded for the first time over a trailer party at her computer! AT CHRISTMAS TIME! And I thought she was my boss and I was like “coolest boss ever!” and then I found out that she was not my boss and my actual boss was, uhm, less cool. And more crazy.
2) We further bonded when Sarah took me to see Sin City and taught me her little thumb game she does during trailers! And I still do it today! And the rest was bestie history.
3) TRAILERS ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG!!!
Okay, as for each trailer:
IRON-MAN 2 HOLY SHIT YOU LOOK SO AWESOME. RDJ looks hotter than ever, and Pepper is so pretty and she kissed his helmet SQUEEE! Two thumbs up!
I am FREAKING OUT over Alice in Wonderland; it looks so sumptuous! I, for one, am definitely not over my Burton Crush. He’s lost a lot of street cred since Ed Wood, for sure, but what he’s lost in cred he’s gained in BUDGET! And I am a whore for the pretty. Two thumbs up!
THE RUNAWAYS TRAILER BLEW ME AWAY. I am dyyyyyyying to see that movie! And I’m totally going to buy that WWJJD (complete with a mulleted silhouette) shirt that I’ve been coveting for several years now for the occasion! I might actually buy that today. Posh, you will look awesome as Dakota Fanning next Halloween. In this movie or in New Moon. Two thumbs up!
And finally, the Robin Hood trailer brings the major lolz. This movie is going to be RIDICULOUS. And I love Cate Blanchett and she looks lovely with red hair. One thumb up, one down.
I’m totally linking to this for NDTD!
meredith, i was totally thinking about you when i wrote this post… can you believe that was FIVE YEARS AGO?! happy bestie anniversary!
and i appreciate yr thumb feedback! as usual, we are in full agreement. um… what if next year for halloween, you’re joan jett and i’m cherie currie?! ring ring, hello? um, yes, this is FIERCE CALLING!
Aww, happy bestie anniversary to you! Squee city!!
DUDE THAT MAY BE THE SINGLE GREATEST IDEA YOU HAVE EVER HAD. gahhhh yes we have to do that! Haha we’re already planning Halloween costumes around a movie we haven’t seen yet. But I know I will love it!
Russell Crowe, yes his personal life makes him not likeable, but I really like his acting. My favorite movies of his include “State of Play”, “Master and Commander”, “A Beautiful Mind” and “3:20 to Yuma”. The trailers we have seen that are on our “going to see” list are “Sherlock Holmes”, “Up in the Air” (I really like George Glooney movies, my favorites with him were “Michael Clayton”, “The Good German”, and “Good Night and Good Luck”), “Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus” and of course still being a SF geek “Avatar”
Sarah’s Dad, if you liked State of Play, the movie, you should watch State of Play, the original miniseries. It’s amazing. (Plus it has James McAvoy in it so maybe Sarah will watch it with you.)
This was a great post, Sarah! Like Sally, I am sadly over Mr Burton. Every movie, all the same! See Johnny Depp in makeup! See Helena Bonham Carter being crazy!
That said, I will still go see Alice. Although now I know that it’s not actually the story of Alice in Wonderland or Through the Looking Glass, which makes me less scared that he’ll ruin it like he did Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Robin Hooooooooooooooooooooooooooood!
Whoa. Some of you are mad harsh on Tim Burton. I read Burton on Burton awhile back and learned that he’s just an oddball artist who loves movies and by and by ended up at various times in the position with studios to have a huge budget to make movies with his own bestie Johnny Depp. He never really set out to be a badass. Gah, I wish Johnny Depp was my bestie.
ps- RDJ 4eva!!!!
pps- I hated Gladiator. Robin Hood looks like Braveheart with more bows and arrows.
I’m completely with Sally and Erin on Tim Burton. Dude, DO SOMETHING ELSE! Johnny Depp is the same thing. I get that he looks weird in make-up. I’m just really frustrated that he’s now remaking the same movie all the time.
Also, Robin Hood, snore.
However, Iron Man 2 all the way! I thought the first movie was fine. That’s it. I don’t understand why everybody loves it, I thought the last half hour was really ho-hum and boring. Mickey Rourke with crazy electricity whips though? I’m in!
lurker alert!
so, awhile ago i came across your fancy pants blog via foreveryoungadult.com (haaaaay!) i thought, i love fya, i’m pretty sure i’m gonna love poshdeluxe. i started reading your entries. and kept reading. and reading, and reading reading reading. and i thought, hey! this is a funny lady who has hobbies outside of reading about angst and shadowhunters and stuff! and so i kept coming back. and reading more. and then i bookmarked you! and then i was like, i think i enjoy reading this blog about as much as i like reading ya, only, maybe even a little more because poshdeluxe is, like, real. so to get to the point, i’ve been lurking, but this particular entry has moved me to stop that, because i have something i have GOT to share with you. may i present to you: BABIES.
