forever young adult (it’s DOT COM!)

ATTENTION PANTSERS AND PANTSERETTES!!!!

it gives me great pleasure and lots of !!!!! to introduce you to a brand new site that will CHANGE YR LIFE!!

ok, well, maybe “change yr life” is a bit of an exaggeration but i am not lying when i say IT IS AWESOME! especially if you like to read! books for teens! that are good!

man i really wish i had the money and time to invite y’all to a fancy pants gala with mini-quiches and a chocolate fountain and champers so i could give this site the introduction into society it deserves!

but… i don’t. SO just pretend like you’re wearing a totally swank outfit and nibbling on baked brie while you watch me (wearing vintage chanel, obvs) pull a red velvet blanket off of a computer to unveil…

FOREVER YOUNG ADULT!

Forever Young Adult

EEEE I’M SO EXCITED I ALMOST SNORTED CHAMPERS UP MY NOSE ACCIDENTALLY!

basically, i created “forever young adult” (i know, i’m clever, right? RIGHT? or does it just remind you of a cheap but fabulous clothing store?) for two types of people: 1) people who love reading YA lit 2) people who love reading YA lit but *don’t know it yet* cos there’s too much crap floating around, not to mention the common misconception that books for teens “aren’t real literature.” basically, i want this blog to be a place where i can rave about my favorite books, rant against heinous atrocities (ahemtwilightahem) and go blah blah blah and !!!! with other like-minded pansters. you can read more about my motivation here.

the best part? i’m not doing this alone! i’ve recruited (lured?) erin and jenny, two lovely ladies who also happen to enjoy gabbing about peeta vs. gale and the RIGHT kind of vampire, to join me as contributors on FYA! you can read more about all of us (and see our totally sweet profile pics) here.

now, i realize that there’s a TON of book review sites out there, and you may be all, “but SARAH, my google reader is SO maxed out already! GAH!” let me assure you that, if you like to read, period, this site is gonna be worth yr time. first of all, our standards for grading books are V. high, so we will not lead you astray with our recommendations. second, in spite of my lack of capitalization and overuse of “OMG!” etc., i am an actual adult, as are erin and jenny, so we’re not gonna be dishing out any disney channel type shizz here (although obvs sweet valley high has its rightful place in YA history). third, and most importantly, we don’t take ourselves seriously, so this site is really just gonna be about us entertaining ourselves and, hopefully, YOU.

we’re just getting started, of course, but you can already see a sampling of the kind of stuff we’ll be doing– book reports, news items (everything from school reading curriculum to whether or not the “hunger games” movie is gonna get made) and, of course, LOTS of rants and what i would affectionately call “slumber party talk.”

the pants world opinion obvs matters a LOT to me, so i hope you’ll check it out and let me know what you think (i.e. leave me comments cos I LOVE COMMENTS YOU GUYS).

and, in case you were worried, poshdeluxe will remain alive and kicking, cos i believe in treating all of my children equally.

c’mon, posh d., let’s get you a big sister t-shirt and an ice cream!

  3. How exciting!! Congrats girl! It is so funny that you posted this TODAY, because I had a Young Adult story to tell you that took place TODAY! :) I was in the library with my precious special ed kids and one of them (who can’t read more than her name) wanted to check out a YA book. (these are easily spotted as they have a big bold bright YA on their spines) The librarian looked at me and then looked back at her and said “does your mom let you watch PG-13 or R movies? Because you can’t check out these books unless your mom lets you watch those.” I don’t know if this story sounds amusing or funny to you, but it really was. And I thought of YOU as soon as it happened. :) I know you love YA more than anyone! Cheers to the new site…I’m raising my wine glass for ya!

  4. And I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that Catching Fire comes out tomorrow.

Can’t wait to read your new blog!

  5. and Julia, that story sounds totally disturbing and against everything that is good and right about librarianship.

I tell my teachers up front-I will not tell a kid what they can and cannot read.

  6. Katie, I live in a very small, conservative town outside of Dallas. (Being from Austin, this is SOOO annoying!) We had parents make a stink about having Twilight in the library. I know, right? It’s ridiculous. Anyways, so I could see the librarian protecting herself (since there are so many parent complaints and whatnot) but I totally know what you mean too, and I appreciate that! (Also, this is a girl who is usually interested in Clifford and very innocent picture books like that, so for her to want a YA book just caught us off guard.)

  7. In honor of your new endeavor, I will be doing something I have never done before! I will read a YA book! (Does Christopher Pike count as YA? in that case, I’ve read a TON)

I can create a reader testimonial afterward…to attest to how my life has changed due to YA!

  9. YAY OMG YAY YAY YAY!!! I’m so excited and proud of you and Erin and Jenny! What an awesome endeavor, and I will save my comments about the content for that site (and expect lots of comments to pop up today), so here I will just say:

Sally! I have read every Christopher Pike book ever, haha. Until Sarah, he was totally my only introduction to YA.

  10. It seems funny that creating a website about YA sounds *so* grown up and professional to me. But it does. Also, completely tech-savvy, which I am completely not.

  11. THANKS YOU GUYS!! YAY!!!!

i appreciate any and all glasses raised in my honor. ;)

and julie, i am not THAT tech-savvy. my internet genius pants, matt, helped me out a lot in the beginning by giving me an awesome wordpress template that i can customize.

p.s. don’t even get me started on christopher pike. ugh.

  12. whatever, sarah! you’re just jealous of christopher pike’s . . . yeah.

actually did anyone ever read that “adult” christopher pike about the vampires ON MARS??? It CHANGED MY LIFE in that before I read it, I didn’t know vampires could live on Mars.
