too true, meredith. in fact, i just read an essay today that blames buffy for making vampires all emo and shizz. it raises some good points:

even though i love spike in general, i agree that his story lines in the last few seasons were lame and weird and, well, v. edward cullen. and we were all unhappy with buffy– although at least she was unhappy with herself, so there was some acknowledgment of the writers kind of screwing stuff up.

with that said, i think buffy, as a feminist figure and an all-around kickass heroine, still stands the test of time. esp. given the time we’re in now, what with lame-o bella and even sookie stackhouse (true blood, i love you, but come on. sookie needs to start throwing some punches).

GAH THAT VIDEO IS SO GOOD. I can’t get over the quality of it! It KICKS ASS.

But it also makes me sad and reminds me that Buffy herself did not maintain that level of awesome feminist badassery throughout her own show.
