(extra)ordinary

oh poladroid, those were the days!

dear pants world,

today i would like to introduce you to an amazing piece of technology (if you haven’t met it already).

it’s called poladroid, and it will change the life of yr pictures. IT IS REALLY EXCITING!

ok, so, if you’re like me, you felt really really sad the day that polaroid announced it would no longer produce film. hello, how else am i supposed to make instantly printed pictures when i’m not near the mugshots photobooth? i was worried that i would actually have to become a *good* photographer instead of relying on polaroid to make my pictures look super hip and vintage.

and then poladroid came along, and suddenly my life looks a LOT cooler. not to mention, hey, i live in the 60s now!

look, there’s me in paris, in the summer of 68!

honestly, i don’t think the makers of poladroid knew what they were getting themselves into when they made this software available to me. because it totally encourages my cheesiness, which normally hovers at EPIC LEVELS. i already take a ton of pictures just so i can look at them an hour later and say, “oooh! remember when we did that?! that was so great!” now poladroid adds in an extra dose of nostalgia, cos it makes it look i did these things YEARS ago instead of, say, hours.

aww, remember that halloween when i was jem and meredith was scary maleficent?!!! oh MAN those for the days. thoooose were the daaaaays.

not only does poladroid increase my nostalgia, it also gives me a false sense of artistry. like, the original of this picture was blurry and just like, whatever. now, it’s like, HELLO MOMA.

poladroid is also a great way to pretend like you’re wearing a vintage outfit rather than american apparel:

hey guys, remember that summer in the 70s when i played professional basketball? i was AWESOME.

plus, it’s just fun to play around with pictures to see which ones look the most authentic. after trying out a few, oh, dozen photos from my flickr, i arrived at my own personal favorite:

who could forget the summer of ‘57 when good ole matt and henri went for a paddleboat joyride! what a buncha clowns!

in celebration of this Great Piece of Technology, i asked a few pantstributors to send me their favorite poladroids.

ok, that last one is totally my favorite too.

happy weekend, you guys!!! enjoy poladroiding yr pants off! ooh and then add to the show by leaving links to yr best creations in the comments.

p.s. does this mean that PD is finally an art collective? yay!

LINKS

when something touts itself as “best cat video you’ll ever see,” i am quick to scepticism. really, video? what about the ninja cat? or the cat that slides into diet soda boxes? but then i watched it and realized that the video is totally not a liar.

even though i still think that the “mystery” titles are edward gorey’s finest work, this is pretty great.

the daily show tackles the whole media broohaha (how do you spell that?) over the obama girls going to school. as usual, DOUBLE TRUE, jon. double true. p.s. i wish samantha bee was my cafeteria lady.

PSA: BEWARE OF THE WORST CHAIR IN AMERICA:

(thanks to sally, my awesome new co-worker, who not only showed me this video but helped to make it!)

Discussion

No comments for “oh poladroid, those were the days!”

  1. I threaten to very quickly become a poladroid addict. I love polaroid film because I happen to think the skewed color balances look really good. But it’s really expensive! And this is free!!!! AND ADORABLE, the way it clicks the shutter and then takes time to develop. If only you could shake it.

That cat video has everything! Tricks, flips, lolcats, different animals being friends and a cute tiny dog, to boot! The segment with the kitty falling asleep reminds me of the time in college when my roommate and I brought home a tiny little kitten to live with us. We were in our room with Mandy and a few others, and the kitty would just get up the nerve to go explore something when Mandy would proclaim loudly “PICK UP PUT DOWN!” and pick the cat up and put it back down where he started. “It builds character,” she said. Later the poor cat was so scared to go anywhere it just sat on our friend Grae’s shoe and tried desperately to stop nodding off.

The cat ended up being pretty crazy, as I recall. Thanks, Mandy.

  2. As Facebook has quickly proven, EVERYONE is addicted to Poladroid. SO. CUTE.

OMG! KITTY VIDEO OMG! That was easily the best cat video I have ever seen, well done, video. It’s interesting that Mandy’s similiar torment of Rupert has resulted in a dog that certainly does have character.

  3. I love Poladroid so much! I can’t stop making them! But I think they should be called Fauxlaroids. Just sayin.

  5. Wow, those things look fantastic. I am totally stealing this idea and poladroiding everything.

Also, the best cat video in the world, ever? Definitely. I am sore from laughing.

  6. That cat video was awesome! It’s just like a long version of America’s Funniest Videos which I am slight embarassed to admit that I like. Something about people getting hit in the groin with a baseball bat meant for a pinata–classic.

Go Poladroid! I think the app has a really clever interface too though I do agree with Trish that Fauxlaroid would be better. I am now inspired to pose every picture based on how it will look through the eyes of Poladroid. Now if they could only merge Poladroid with kitty videos. Million dollar idea, people.
