happy almost thanksgiving, pants world!

i can’t deny that i have given quite a lot of thought to the food i will be consuming in the next 48 hours, BUT instead of writing an entry about pie (believe you me, i was tempted), i decided to make a list of things i’m thankful for, cos I’M HOKEY AND NOT ASHAMED OF IT.

and i’m hoping that maybe, in the comments, *you* can tell me about something you’re thankful for!

and also what one food item you’re most excited about devouring. cos, after all, this IS still my blog.

SOME THINGS I AM THANKFUL FOR
by posh d. pants

$4 martini mondays at parkside

quorn fake-chicken nuggets cos they provide me with a tasty, healthy lunch every day

my friends!! I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!

hollywood toddlers

stanley, the best bike in the world

PANTS!

ok, now it’s your turn, pilgrim pants!

oh and as for my favorite food item, i don’t know yet!! cos i don’t know what my family is bringing! but i *do* know that i’m baking a salt-kissed buttermilk cake with raspberries, and that is bound to be some tasty business.

MSW sent me a treasure trove of videos by parry gripp– have you heard of him? he makes songs for youtube videos, and they are HILARIOUS (and weird). my favorites: chimpanzee riding a segway and soccer ball (in the face).

DUDE. the new terminator poster is AWESOME.

blast from the past: today i discovered that one of my high school theater friends, artemis, has been appearing in “it’s always sunny in philadelphia”! you can watch a clip of her comic genius here. even in high school, i was pretty amazed that the houston suburbs managed to produce someone as zany and creative as she is. go artemis!

happy thanksgiving from winston, my favorite internet cat.

  1. Fun! I am totally grateful for my darling hubby, for road trippin’ to Miami, my remote job being offered permanently, my family (as insane as they are, both the in-laws and my immediate family), for the 2nd and 3rd graders I sing with every Sunday, for the cabin, Christ, and so much more.

And I am lovin’ eating my family’s homemade veggie dip…seriously yummy stuff!!!!!!

  2. I am thankful for the natives of this land for being such pushovers when our ancestors came in. If it wasn’t for them I would be in England or Ireland right now. Wait that actually sounds like it would be cool. Curse youuuu Gennnociiddee!!!

I am also thankful for all of the people who are able to be off of work on Thanksgiving Day coming into the store with their “day off” and “full days pay” and listen to them pretend to sympathize with me for having to work on a holiday when they should know that if people them didn’t show up on Thanksgiving Day to buy stuff we wouldn’t be open.

I’d like to thank my fans.

I’d also like to thank the Academy because it truly is an honor being nominated.

Coming up next on the 81st Academy Awards is Billy Crystal with his montage comedy song depicting every movie made about WWII in the last 50 years of Cinema. Stay Tuned.

  3. And also I would like to add that Parry Gripp is in a band called Nerf Herder.

    Posted by Moody | November 26, 2008, 10:44 pm
  4. and that Nerf Herder do the Buffy theme song.

Here are some things for which I should pause and give thanks, all Turkey Day related:

    1) truffle oil (holla, my turkey’s going to be amazing)
    2) not being at work.
    3) pie
    4) people who are nice to other people just cause it’s the holidays
    5) the point spread on tomorrow’s Texas v. A&M game
    6) pursuant to above, the few wise voters in the BCS polls who realize that there is no way in hell that Oklahoma should be outranking Texas. more of them, please
    7) thanksgiving-themed tv programs! 8) planning huge menus and then having the satisfaction of seeing them come together at the end.
    9) the tater pie song, even though we are not, sadly, having tater pie tomorrow.
    10) all those people tomorrow who will stand around the table and sing the tater pie song with me, because that’s what family’s for.

    happy t-day, pantsworld!

  5. my new t400 has decided to replace my number 8 with an emoticon of a smily face wearing sunglasses. i am affronted by this.

  6. I am thankful for the following:

    1. the increasing strong possibility of an “Arrested Development” movie
    2. Big Top Candy on South Congress. They have candied BACON! Try it!
    3. Related to 2, bacon and/or breakfast meats in general.
    4. Brunch booze drinks.
    5. Booze drinks.
    6. It is now socially acceptable to listen to Christmas songs again.
    7. Egg nog and/or egg nog lattes.
    8. My friends, who ordinarily rate WAY higher than egg nog, but I haven’t had any yet this year, and it’s been SO LONG you guys!
    9. my handsome, sweet, intelligent dog, Rupert. Even though he rejected his orange sweater with the turkey applique on it, I know he’s as excited for the hoidays as I am.
    10. The amount of food that will be eaten from now until New Year’s.

I am a big fan of stuffing on Thanksgiving, but enough cannot be said about the classic pumpkin pie. And, the warm buttered roll is the unsung hero of every good meal!

  7. I, too, am thankful for a new president. Also for a good UT football game that will hopefully restore my faith in humanity and the BCS (holla, Erin). And for a handsome bearded fiance who is currently making me a gigantic feast while I recline in the arm chair, drinking tea and catching up with the internet. I’m thankful for having a family that rocks and never stresses me out, friends with whom I text and e-mail constantly because we share the same obsessions, and soon-to-be in-laws with whom I feel so comfortable that I could just as easily be at my parents’ house and I wouldn’t feel any more at home. And for breakfast tacos, poshdeluxe.com, my kitties, Mad Men, good books, and broccoli cheese rice casserole, which is coincidentally also the food I am most excited to devour in a couple of hours.

    Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

  8. Nerf Herder! Yay! I haven’t thought about them in ages. The band I was in at Rice (Riot Nrrrd) covered a Nerf Herder break-up song. It was awesome.

On that note, I’m thankful for having had the opportunity to go to Rice, be a Wiessman, play crazy cover songs in Riot Nrrrd, being able to run, my faboo husband, my sweet sweet family, my super-cool friends, adjectives, Thanksgiving dinner takeout from Chez Zee (yum!), working at UT, living in Austin, the library, TiVo, our slow cooker, Wii, and more!

  9. I’m most thankful for a wonderful wife and I’m thankful that I’ve been able to move forward in my career this year and leave a job that I didn’t quite realize I was horribly frustrated with. I’m thankful that we finished paying off our last debt in the past two weeks and are finally debt free and I’m thankful that being debt free means that we’re going to be able to save up the money that we need to pay for moving expenses come January (assuming everything still works out)

I’m also thankful for this blog and the opportunity it’s given Ang and I to start to get to know some cool people in the city we’ve fallen in love with.

  10. OMG there might be an Arrested Development movie coming out?!? I am so far behind. I am thankful for Mandy whom I don’t know.

  11. Oh so many things to be thankful for (in no particular order):

    1) Having job security (as far as I can tell)
    2) Getting to cook Thanksgiving dinner with my mom
    3) Internet sales that include many DVDs for cheap
    4) Building extra shelves to accommodate all those DVDs I will purchase from internet sales
    5) Two kitties and a lovely lady
    6) Beer
    7) Smallville 8) Excellent friends
    9) Overindulgence of the holidays
    10) Having reserve enough to not over-celebrate our soon-to-be victory over A&M in front of my football-loving Aggie father.

  13. 8) 8). Let’s see if that worked.

  14. Matt, I’ll second the discount dvds. We hit this store called Entertainmart this morning. All of their used DVDs were $5 and all of their used boxsets were half off. Is it sad to say we’ve been scouting there this month making a list of things we wanted? We made a spreadsheet to take with us this morning and divided and conquered. I don’t have a number for how many DVDs we actually acquired but it’s an absurd number. I’m psyched to finally have Freaks and Geeks though. Ang and I have been hunting for a decently priced copy of that for a while now.

  15. Here we go, the latest step in John’s Americanization.

I’m following Matt in the lack of a particular order.

    1) My family
    2) Living in Austin, Texas and not New Haven, New York or Ann Arbor
    3) Texas football
    4) Liverpool Football Club
    5) Video games, particularly all games made by Valve
    6) The promise of life after graduate school

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

  16. 1) a working toilet
    2) the internet – which helped me fix the broken toilet (oh the joys of home ownership! fixing toilets 101 should have been required in high school)
    3) a working car
    4) an amazing wife who took my car into the shop to get fixed
    5) my sister and parents
    6) fleece products – it is going to be fucking cold this winter

  17. I am thankful most of all for:

    - my new job, which is so much better than my old one
    - a phone that lets me call my family cheaply
    - friends that humour my randomness
    - the bravery to do other random things on my own
    - having found a fairly cute flat at a reasonable price fairly quickly
    - a somewhat more sunny winter (so far)
    - a new President (of course)
    - the thick duvet on my bed

And lots of other things, but I’ll start being silly if I don’t cut it off. :)
