i can’t wait til it’s time for the dundies…

why i love my new office:

reason #14

when i walked into the staff meeting last week, i was greeted by this:

why yes, that IS a framed (and ribbon wrapped) print from my glory days as an internet security model.

seriously, i can’t *wait* to see what my HILARIOUS coworkers come up with for diversity training.

reason #15:

we’re having a potluck on thursday!!! i love office potlucks! i think i might bring mac ‘n’ cheese!!!!

reason #16:

everyone winks a lot. it’s, like, an accepted form of professional communication, and i’m receiving some *serious* training. so, next time you see me, expect some winking. I LOVE WINKS! (WINK!)

***BLOG BONUS***

when i retrieved the above photo from sadie, i suddenly discovered some pictures from the “bill pullman adventure” that i had totally forgotten about. i showed them to one of the student workers, who compared this gem to “finding a $50 bill in the pocket of some old jeans.” (reason #17 why i love this office).

yeah, i’m thinking less $50 and more…. PRICELESS.

LINKS

my dad sent me this link to the world’s largest cupcake. i have to admit, i was kiiiiind of disappointed. maybe cos i’ve seen those commercials that inexplicably feature a cupcake the size of a building. but really, duff goldman? that’s all you got? then again, as my old rice friend amanda used to say, “i wouldn’t say no.”

check out this really fun (and kind of hilarious in a semi-depressing way) jezebel investigation of working women in the 50s and 60s, entitled “were women in the 50s and 60s really like the ones on ‘mad men’?” some of those magazine spreads are amaaaazing.

  1. . . . what is Bill Pullman doing with his chest? Also, he looks more David Arquette-ish in that photo.

  2. Also what mostly strikes me from the magazine spreads are the clothes. The lovely, lovely clothes. (Sorry, Jezebel! I get where you’re going, but have you seen those dresses??)

  3. It’s always easier to go to work when you can laugh, hang out and overall have a good time with the people there. I love the DOS office (is that where you are)?

As far as the cupcake goes, I don’t think you were looking at the finished product, despite the caption. It looks like one of those Food Network challenges was going on and there’s no way that cupcake would have won without some major cosmetic work. Another indicator that you shouldn’t be too upset is this section of the article supporting my theory that “delish” isn’t all about details:
“Reportedly 150 times the size of a regular cupcake, this record-breaker called for 16 pounds of butter, 10 pounds of sugar, and three ounces of food coloring.”

THREE OUNCES? A WHOLE THREE OUNCES? Does anyone else find that funny? 16 pounds, ten pounds, and . . . wait for it . . . three ounces.

  4. A. It looks like you caught Henri & Bill doing something naughty.
    B. I really wish they’d put giant sprinkles on the cupcake.
    C. Call me old-fashioned, but I too use accessories to underscore my individual style. Maybe someday I too could be a “fashionably behatted vagina-owning boss-woman!”

  5. I’m so glad your office is so fun! I love it, too, by virtue of their hilarious hijinks!

Want the dresses without the sexism, Erin?

    Also, Henri looks…so excited!

  6. That cupcake…. What about the fake one in the credit card ad? I have no recollection which one. Great job, advertising people.

I’m so happy to read a post celebrating the groovy things about office life.

randy, my program is now actually within undergraduate studies, not DOS. i’ll email you more about it…
