dear diary pants: “if only it could be this easy all the time”

in today’s entry, we learn the following about the teenage world of sarah pants:

1. you can never have too many quotation marks.

2. fruitopia is a totally cool new beverage that challenges you to be yrself!

3. people still use rollerblades.

4. school-assigned summer reading!!!

5. high school parties consist of movies, King’s Quest, pizza, goofing off and “stuff” (in other words, nothing like “can’t hardly wait”).

6. it takes a lot of practice to hang out with boys and actually feel comfortable being yrself.

7. sharing pizza with a boy is is a really Big Step.

8. who cares about booze when you can bring grover as the Ultimate Party Favor?

7/14/94

I got to sleep late today. Ahh, what a luxury! I watched “Sesame Street,” and you know what, I still love that show! Grover, Kermit, Elmo, Oscar, Big Bird… who can’t love these guys?

Mom and I “did lunch” with Dad at “Jalapeno’s.” The food was pretty good– our waitress’ name (nick name, rather) was Chili [ed note: boy, was she working at the wrong restaurant!], and she goes to A&M, and guess what– she knows Karen, my cousin. It’s a small world after all! She told me this thing I should remember for Chemistry about the Honker policec that work for the FBI [ed note: i have no idea what that means].

We walked to the Art Institute and saw these neat drawings by students there. Dad liked this “Pace Picante” one, and I wanted to buy this shirt that said, “Good Art Doesn’t Match Your Sofa” [ed note: i went back later and bought it-- and i still have it!]. Becky would definitely heart this place.

Walking back, we heard music and saw this hippie-van that was painted tons of colors with all of these designs. We investigated, and found out it was for “Fruitopia” the new fruit juice drink. They had these two “Grateful Dead” looking guys on harmonica and vocal, and free bottles if you had this ticket (which we didn’t have). They had roller blades, and this guy with this really neat mask called “Llama Man” who challenged you to be different [ed note: wow]. There was a fairly large audience. Now, you don’t see *that* type of thing everyday! I think it would be cool to go on tour like that.

me, about a year before this post was written, daring to be different, i.e. daring to be a total nerd on the first day of 9th grade. i got that shirt and shorts from wet seal, which i considered to be the *height* of fashion.

Then, for the fun part of the day, I got my DT (diptheria tetanus) shot for school. It didn’t hurt as much as I thought, and I got a cute little round Snoopy band-aid. I got ready for Rachel’s party and stopped to get my second summer reading book at “Book-Stop.” I’m reading “The Crystal Cave” and “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.”

Rachel’s party was a blast!!! Her mom and she bought this indoor volleyball net and stuff, so I helped set up. Then, when Danny called, he said that Travis & Kevin weren’t coming and didn’t we know that?!!! But he brought Adam C. with him. And Robert B. came (surprise, surprise). We blared music, played volleyball, ate pizza, and stuff. Jennifer has lice, and she almost didn’t come (but then she treated her hair, so ok) and Se thought she might have gotten it from Jennifer, so she almost didn’t come. But I was glad when she showed up, even if she didn’t have the book of questions. A lot of people went outside, but I didn’t want to– mosquitoes!!

Later, Danny, Adam, Keriann and I played football with this big bounce ball thing, then we had this foam shapes fight, then hit the foam shapes over the balcony with tennis rackets. “Just call me Stephie-CLUNK!” [ed note: oh lord].

Then we watched some of my SNL video, which didn’t go over *as well* as I had hoped, then started “Wanda,” but then the guys had to leave. It was so great!! I haven’t felt so at ease with guys since Ashley’s 7th grade party! Adam and I shared a Pineapple & Canadian Bacon Pizza [ed note: yes, i capitalized that, cos even then i knew what was important]. I didn’t even care about what they thought of me– cool, huh?!

Grover was a huge hit! Danny became permanently attached to him and put him in the back of his shirt with his head sticking out. Now, if only it could be this easy all the time!

By the way, I was very glad that I was in such a party happy mood (drunk? noooo) [ed note: HILARIOUS]. We all helped Rachel play King’s Quest 6, but I finally put myself to bed at 1:30. What a busy day! And what a busy tomorrow!

OMG. I can’t believe I brought “lice” to the “party.” I actually have “no” recollection of this “party.” None of it.

Oh, and those yellow “socks” with your “wet seal” outfit are “fantastic.”

wow, I’m so glad Sarah didn’t know me at this point in her life and can’t tell embarrassing anecdotes now!

Also, WHAT?! No Keanu reference? I call farce!

I love that the teenage you knew (and explained) what a DT shot is and wanted to run away with the Fruitopia “hippies.”

King’s Quest! Yes! I remember it was a big deal that you had to have a VGA monitor to play that game. Aging nerds unite.

I totally remember Fruitopia. They had really cool psychedelic-looking commercials, and I, like the gullible teenager they were hoping I would be, bought it pretty much just because of the cool commercials. From what I remember, it wasn’t bad, just a little too sweet.

    Love the yellow socks!
