YOU GUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUYSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I JUST GOT OUT OF MY LAST CLASS!!! OF MY LIFETIME!!!!!
sweet cracker sandwich. this is crazy.
i remember, at the end of my first semester, there was a girl also named sarah who was about to graduate. it was the last day of class, and she was positively *giddy* with excitement, and i thought to myself: “one day, i’m going to be a sarah who is having her last day of class, and it’s gonna feel amazing.”
AND NOW IT IS HAPPENING!!!!!!!
this day is inherently magical, but it features some pretty incredible icing. such as:
1) when i got out of the elevator, i was greeted by this:

i’m really gonna miss having class in the art building. there’s constantly something whimsical going on, and it makes me wish i could go back to undergrad and get my nose pierced and dye my hair dark purple and wear ratty sweaters splattered with paint.

i wanna give a big shout out to sadie for capturing all of these pictures, cos i didn’t have flossy with me today. way to step up, sadie!
2) WE HAD CUPCAKES IN CLASS. you guys. COULD IT GET MORE PERFECT?!!!! one of my classmates used cupcakes in her presentation, cos she is awesome. and we even got to add our own sprinkles!!!!!! this is definitely my kind of graduate education.

3) another presentation featured “apples to apples” which is pretty much the funnest game on the planet. as i looked around the room at my classmates, i realized that i’m actually going to miss them! one of the best parts of being in school is getting to know new people, and it’s been a pleasure to mingle with the future art educators of america. to be honest, they are waaaay cooler than higher ed admin folks (sorry! it’s true!!). not to mention better dressers.

4) KANYE WEST!!!!!!
that’s right, i’m going to see kanye… and rihanna… and n.e.r.d…. and lupe fiasco tonight!!! with erica and henri!!! I’M SO EXCITED!!!! gah i think i’m gonna explode.
here’s the thing, though. even though i’m really ready to be done with school, i still love learning. and that’s why this probably won’t be my last class… maybe in the future i’ll take another art class or a cooking class or maybe even an ADVANCED hip hop class.
i try to cultivate my curiosity as much as possible, and maybe it seems silly, but i consider my foray into hip hop dance to be a legitimate quest for knowledge, such as…
the crank dat lion king dance.
have you guys heard of this dance? probably not, since most of you are white. and apparently white people have never heard of this dance. but it is AWESOME. and so look! i’m sharing my new knowledge with you! learning is so fun!
seriously. this dance is AMAY-MAY. erica and i have already done it a billion times, and i’m hoping to whip it out at the kanye show tonight.
i hope this entry makes sense. not only am i euphoric, but i’m also on sudafed, cos i have some sort of allergy/sinus thing going on.
and since wendesdays are usually question days, i now ask you: what do you want to learn more about? big or small? silly or important?
obviously i’m assuming that you all want to learn crank dat lion king, so you don’t need to worry about mentioning it in yr response.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Man, it’s awesome not to have to go to class. Every once in a while I think, “I wish I was back in school…” Then I remember all the homework and I’m like, “Oh, thank GOD I’m not in school anymore.”
Hoooray for you!
Sarah, you RULE!!! Well done, I am really happy for you.
I want to learn more about cars, and manly things. Like how to fix stuff when it breaks. That would be a big deal to me!
Congrats!!
I’ll be in Austin May 10th if you wanna grab coffee or a drink.
yea, lady, you made it!
congratulations!
I know that everyone here is congratulating you on finishing school, but I would like to be the first to say great job learning crank dat lion king. I mean, hello, it is not easy to learn new dances, especially in our ultra intimidating hip hop dance class, so great job Sarah. I foresee more hip hop dance in our near future..well maybe August..we are a bit busy till then.
I love to learn, more dancing would be great. And a few other languages would be awesome too. I had a lot of fun learning boxing so maybe like karate or something. The possibilities are endless. I am very happy you have no more graduate school Yippee
Congrats Sarah, I’m having flash backs of countless mid-conversation exhaust when talking about school. You did it! I’m really happy for you. AND I’m so upset that I wasn’t invited to go to Kanye with you. I know I live across the ocean, but come on. I might have pulled something off. Have fun.
A. Congratulations, Sarah! In the famous words of Alice Cooper: “No more classes, no more books, no more teachers’ dirty looks… School’s out forever!”
B. I know you were speaking specifically of the art educators in your class, but as an art educator I am flattered by association. And as a fine art director, I bestow upon you, Miss Pitre, the title of Honorary Art Educator for your efforts in educating our world on the art of pantsiness. Bravo!
Wanna come teach my middle schoolers now with your honorary art educator title?
Big ups yourself, you grad degree holding mofo.
Small anecdote: last night Erica and I were listening to NPR in the car (nerd alert, obviously) and the dude was talking about upcoming events. And he announced “And tonight, at the Erwin Center….Kan-yuh West.”
We just looked at eachother. NPR: very good at pronouncing the names of war-torn African villages, not so good at pronouncing probably the most popular hip hop artist in the world.
double true, josh. seriously.
and erica, i agree. are you people watching the “crank dat lion king” video at all?! i mean, yeah, my last class is a big deal and i appreciate the congratulations, but THIS DANCE IS AWESOME.
OMG, the next time I see you, I am not going to let you REST until you teach me that dance. IT LOOKS FREAKING AWESOME. Obvs I could learn from the video, but I’d rather be instructed by the combined badassery of Sarah and Erica (or Sarica in Celebrity Coupling Speak).
I want to learn to surf, French (I mean, REALLY learn it, not the just-barely-getting-by crap I learned in school), the piano, and the dance in Smooth Criminal.
Meredith…this is just one of the reasons I love you so much. Your appreciation for the finer things in life..like cranking dat lion king. It will be a great pleasure to teach you the awesomeness of that dance. Although I only performed pieces of the dance at the Kanye show, I did do the entire dance on the streeet on the walk to the show cause Henri needed to see it, however there were several songs during the concert where the dance would have fit to many of the beats.
Sarah, are you getting your Masters in Stepping Up 2 The Streets with that Crank Dat Lion King dance??
CONGRATS! Your entry into The Professional World begins. Get your shoulder pads ready!
Yay, Sarah!! Congrats on finishing school! I also love learning…thats why I take classes at UT and I torture myself with hours of Arabic homework every week :). I am excited because I just got done with my class this semester (besides the final) and I won’t have homework all summer!!! I will always love learning languages and enjoy taking classes at UT. It works a part of my brain that doesn’t get much excercise at work and makes me feel smart. Other non-academic classes I would love to take….I would love to learn how to sew and decorate cakes!! Maybe I can make one of those my summer project…why am I giving myself more homework?!
I’m going to start taking classes in being classy.
congrats! that dance is pretty sweet. i’m glad that someone was able to sample in music from the lion king. finally!
Congratulations, Sarah. It must be nice to have class-stress off of your shoulders. And to celebrate it with Kanye and Rihanna? Nice.
I went to an Astros game last week and the announcer pronounced his name “Cane” West (which is probably more frequent than Kan-yeh). It would be funny if the NPR guy actually new some “correct” African pronunciation and Kanye had been pronouncing his own name wrong his entire life.
So when did Crank Dat Lion King hit da streetz? Was it immediately after Soulja Boy hit last year? Help me. I know not what you dance.
Congratulations on your last day of class ever! It’s such a good feeling isn’t it? I remember my last day of grad school and I think I could breathe better when it was over. Although now I’m contemplating going back for more and I know I must be crazy. I like not having homework but I understand the desire to learn. Hope you had fun at the Kanye “Cane” West show.
That last comment was not from Anonymous, it was from me, Celina. I switched from Firefox to Safari and apparently Safari’s like, “I don’t know you, byatch.” (le sigh)
Henri, do you mean to say that you are not already classy?
Congratulations, darling! I haven’t read blogs in ages, so it’s good to be back reading them, but sad I missed getting to tell you congrats before. That dance is awesome. How long did it take you to learn?
I want to learn lots of stuff, especially how to sew, but also about booky things, but I have a whole list of those and will spare you. Also I feel I should learn to make cheesecake, since I’m obviously never going to buy a good one ever again.
