my weekend was full of food, family and tots, which means it was pretty much the best weekend ever.

on saturday morning, my mom and i went over bright and early (dude. it was 9:30… ON A SATURDAY) to check out the downtown farmer’s market. i can’t believe i’ve never been there before, cos it’s like a sarah fairy tale land. there’s tons of fresh food and there’s lots of people out and about (don’t you just love seeing people out and about?) and there’s a billion dogs and even more babies!!!!! it’s like a dream come true!!

here’s mom, enjoying her empanada (note: the empanada stand is totally tasty business).

and here’s an example of the cuteness that abounds at the market:

i love that this girl was all upons her ice cream, even though it was pretty chilly outside. SHE MEANS BUSINESS.

oh, you need another example of cuteness? ye shall receive:

this baby is FED UP with the paparazzi. she’s all, TMZ! SUCK ON THIS! of course she’ll probably write a myspace blog about how much she hates that i posted this photo, and then she’ll sue me, and then we’ll both go on ET to talk about what happened… but i can’t help myself.

the dogs totally gave the babies a run for their money in the awesomeness department, though. i mean, look at this big shaggy dog! you can just *hear* his sweet goofy voice in yr head, can’t you? “HARRO, SARAH! HI HI is that a piece of food? WHERE DID IT GO? HARRO HARRO!”

and then there was this great (and i mean Great) dane, who could totally give all of the tots a horsey ride.

THAT DOG IS HUGE!!!! but he was also super friendly, so it was ok.

all in all, it was a glorious and tasty morning. and look in the background– it’s henri’s condo!!! gah i can’t wait for june.

the austin appreciation continued on sunday, when my parents and i went to the chocolate festival!!! which is a festival about chocolate!! which is amazing!!!!!

basically, you buy tickets for a two hour session inside of the building, and you get to sample TONS of chocolate items from different vendors. it kind of felt like we were at a convention, but trust me, chocolate is waaaay better than, say, a free XXL t-shirt or a keychain.

and hey look! that guy in the orange shirt is my friend shannon, who lives in dallas!

so yeah, you guys, there was a lot of chocolate. IT WAS EVERYWHERE! and in a variety of different forms! like, there was chocolate truffles and chocolate bark and chocolate milk and hot chocolate and chocolate sauce and chocolate gelato and chocolate coffee and chocolate bark and raw chocolate and chocolate brownies and chocolate cookies and ZOMGGGGGGG!!!!!!! CHOCOCHOCOVERLOAD! like, willy wonka just flooded the entire place with his chocolate river.

i have never EVER experienced so much chocolate in my entire life. it was kind of… surreal. like, maybe this how a princess feels, when you get to just have whatever you want, you know, like eating bonbons by the pool while a servant fans you like it’s no big deal. oh yeah, i just ate 20 pounds of chocolate cos i felt like it. obviously.

there was a competition going on for “most creative,” so we walked down the row and tried all four items:

as you can see, i was NOT that impressed with the “creativity” on display. i mean, sure, all of these things were tasty, but creative? ice cream? really? i was kinda hoping for something like chocolate enchiladas or chocolate covered fried cheese. you know, the best of both worlds.

i ended up voting for the gelato, cos it was just so darn tasty. mom agreed.

one of my favorite booths featured mini-macarons, like the kind i buy at laduree in paris!

aren’t they the cutest?!! don’t you just want a big basket of them on yr table so you can eat one whenever you need to feel special?

after sampling everything (EVERYTHING), i decided that my hands down favorite chocolate item was the mole:

maybe it’s cos i got kinda sick of regular chocolate, but this mole sauce was UNBELIEVABLE. i mean, i can’t even write about it without my mouth watering, which is kind of gross when you’re not eating anything and you end up with extra spit in yr mouth that you have to swallow. anyway. the mole was SO FREAKING TASTY that i went back for a second chip. mmmm mole. it was made by a personal chef, which means i have to call this woman and ask her to make me some mole, *personally.* how CONVENIENT that my birthday is coming up…

mom, dad and i didn’t even make it through the full two hours, which means we are weenies. the chocolate totally OWNED us. just take a look at dad:

outside on the patio, i decided to interview mom and dad about their favorites. here’s what they had to say:

mom:

dad:

[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5bJQ_ilD2Q 325 260]

afterwards, dad said, “oh no. is this gonna be on yr blog?”

DUH, dad! everything goes on the blog! that’s why i DO things. so i can write about them. now i just need to find someone to *pay* me, and then i can do even more things, which means even more blogging, which means more tasty business and babies and puppies in my future! this is the formula for success.

ok, i’ll write about the rest of the weekend (oh yes, there’s more) tomorrow.

i only have one link for you today, but it is AWESOME. have you guys heard about the man who climbed everest in his shorts? I’M SERIOUS. read more about him here.

  1. Ok, two things.

I’m about to do something without a trace of irony. Not a trace.

    OMG.

There you go. Yeah, I just went there.

Also, this Farmer’s Market sounds in some way familiar but I’ve never been either. Sounds like an idea for a wholesome date for those of us who like to get our romancing on in the daylight.

Not sure who the ‘us’ is in that sentence, really.

  4. As if I needed any more reasons why I MISS/LOVE Austin: The Farmer’s Market. Le Sigh. Chris and I would go every saturday morning and one of the veggie stands knew us by name and we always bought our bell peppers from them. And there’s Carol, the goat cheese lady, who makes the tastiest goat cheese in all of Austin Farmer’s Market land.

    CHOCOLATE FESTIVAL?!?!?

    I am crying.

  5. I love Al and Sue. They’re so awesome.

Next time this chocolate thing is in town, let me know so I can take William. He’s a chocolate fiend.

And that was a beautiful great dane! Such a gorgeous example of canine. Wow.

  8. Mama and Papa Pitre! Much love!

MC and I still need to hit up that farmer’s market… Going to the one at Boggy Creek Farm awhile back whetted my appetite for produce stands.
