today, i discovered an important milestone in history is passing before our v. eyes:
my little pony turns 25 this year!!!!!!!!

i feel that i greatly benefited from being part of the first generation to enjoy my little pony (note, i had that pony with the stars on the left). you know, before it got all commercialized.

ha ha i’m totally kidding. little pony was commercialized from the beginning! cos duh, it’s hasbro! but whatever, i loooooved my little ponies with all the purity and innocence in my five year old body. and back then, the ponies were super basic. like, they just had colored hair and little tattoos on their booties (or “haunches,” if you want to get scientific). we didn’t have no high-falutin’ glitter ponies with multi-colored skin back in those days!

like, whoah. this pony would have scared the crap out of me as a five year old.
back in my MLP glory days, i probably had about twenty ponies. and they all lived in this plastic carrying case that looked like a barn with a pink roof. some of my ponies even had OUTFITS, which was awesome. except sometimes the outfits didn’t really, like, make sense. take the Tennis Outfit:

so… how does the pony hold the racket, exactly? i know, i know, it’s all about imagination but… still. that’s kiiiind of weird.
i ALSO got a MLP nursery set, which came with this little baby pony (apparently, her name was “baby tiddly winks” which i had forgotten. THANK HEAVENS for the internet and its storage of vital information):

i couldn’t find a picture of the actual crib, but i DID find this photo of the toys that came with it!! and hello flood of memories!!!

i like how the “rocking chair” for the baby pony just makes it into a rocking horse. CLEVER.
i can’t recall if i ever had a MLP birthday party, but if i had, i KNOW i would have wanted this exact cake:

cakes that feature actual toys were always the best, you know?
even though i don’t play with MLP anymore, i realized there are still a lot of ways for “grown ups” to enjoy some fabulous pony action. for example, underwear!

ok, maybe those are for kids. but whatever. i’m sure there are some for adults. right? right.
or… what about a corset top?!

ok, i would totally wear that outfit. esp. with the tutu!!! and pink bows!!!
anyway, to celebrate the anniversary, hasbro is inviting different artists/celebs to design their own MLP. which is a FABULOUS idea. i haven’t received my invitation yet, but i’m sure it will pop up in my email any day now. i’ve got lots of ideas, like cupcake pony, punk rock pony, nerd pony, goth pony, american apparel pony… the possibilities are endless!
i mean, just check out these creations! wow!

the japanese pony is my favorite, but it’s already sold. boo.
i think it’s cool that MLP appealed to girls who weren’t necessarily the “horse lover” types. you know what i mean… there was always at least one girl in every class who had long hair and wore a distant, dreamy expression all day who was in LOVE with horses and drew pictures of them on her binder and read horse books, etc. etc.
MLP wasn’t just for those girls, it was for *everyone.* because MLP was about the freedom to love colorful horses who danced on rainbows and dyed their hair with manic panic.
today, i celebrate that freedom. happy 25th, my little pony!

as some of you know, matt s, josh and daniel recently won a st. arnold’s cook-off with some DELICIOUS-looking fried cookie dough balls. check out this video to learn the secret behind this incredibly culinary creation (note: matt should totally have his own cooking show).
francis bean is getting older and still manages to seem saner than both of her parents.
you guys have GOT to check out these famous hitchcock film posters recreated with current celebs. seriously awesome. i think i like the seth rogan one best.
wanna ride another wave of nostalgia? remember witch of blackbird pond?
Oh man! I just saw some of the more recent MLP they have out. My friend observed that they’re totally more anorexic looking than they used to be. C’mon, Hasbro, I want my ponies chunky!
When I was in second grade I got head lice, and my mom washed all my MLPs hair along with my own as part of the lice removal process. I couldn’t let my MLPs have itchy scalps, you know.
Where did you find that corset top? I think my sister needs one.
My sisters were well into My Little Pony. Wasn’t there a cartoon at some point?
And poor Frances Bean. I’m sorry, she might be more sane than her mum, but there’s no way she’ll ever be sane.
WoBBP made me think of 8th grade language arts and Ms. Marek’s class. I loved that class. Crazy to imagine that it was her first year teaching.
I’m stoked to make the links. Also, My Little Ponies are super creepy.
Yay Carnies! That’s so nice of you to include them in the links!
Those Hitchcock posters are amaaaazing. I love stuff like that.
One Robot Chicken there was a skit about MLP, except the theme was the apocalypse and there was Pestilence Pony, Death Pony, etc…it was freakin’ hilarious. I would put up a link except I am lazy.
Yay MLP! I am so jealous of all the cool MLP stuff you had…I just had a few and sure didn’t have a barn. I used to love watching the cartoon too…awesome! Oh man, I totally forgot about the Witch of Blackbird Pond. I used to loooooove that book.
I use to love MLP to oh Funny I was so in shocked when my 4 year old asked her grandma(my mom) for one and My super organized ocd mother pulled out all 50+ of my old ponyies and all the out fits and ponnyvile stables yeah well my mom was a super star to my daughter. I guess I am really happy she saved all of it!
