(music by a tiny person)
this weekend was absolutely stunning.
and it shall be blogged about it three parts.
today, i want to tell you about the art show that i entered!! yes i entered an art show!!
the opera house, a funky little thrift store on south first, hosted “the tiny brigades art show,” and accepted submissions from anyone! anyone who makes tiny art.
so i decided i could be one of those people that makes tiny art!
last week, dessiree and i bought some clay at target and proceeded to get our molding on at taco cabana (strange studio space, i know. but her house is cray and my apartment was too far away). i showed her how to make teddy bears while i commenced with my tiny art-making. at the end of our artistic session, a little girl came up to me:
little girl: are you an artist?
me: well… i make art, so yeah! i’m an artist!
little girl: do you give lessons?
me (struggling not to openly AWWWW): um, no i don’t. i’m sorry! but you can get this clay at target and make yr own creations! it’s easy!
little girl: ok. thank you.
it was pretty great.
so friday was the opening night for the show. and i was excited!!!! here’s me, at the entrance:

so, are you wondering what i made?
i bet you could figure it out with, oh, two guesses.
I MADE TINY DESSERTS! LOOK!

i know, don’t they look tasty?!!!
i named my piece, “tiny thiebaud,” in honor of my favorite (baked goods) painter.
since i’m a total dork, i just had to take one of those “to scale” pictures, like they do with a penny or a pencil eraser, in order to convey the miniature nature of my desserts:

i felt so excited when i got to put it on the shelf with all of the other tiny art!!!

can you tell i was totally proudy proud PROUD?
the opening was casual but super fun. they even served tiny food!!!!

yes, like any proper artist, i arrived with an entourage. and they all voted for me in the “what is yr favorite piece?” contest. isn’t that nice?!

yeah, i know, they’re totally the artsy fartsy types (p.s. that is a plastic cup in henri’s mouth… i think he’s making a statement).
i enjoyed looking at the other pieces as well, like this one:

of course tim, being a total stage mom, did a quick tour of the room and then snarkily whispered, “yr piece is SO the best one here.” ha ha ha i love you tim!!
really, though, i think this was the best one:

le squee!
anyway, i don’t think i won any prizes, but i’m so happy that i actually made some art! and submitted it in a show! and that my friends came out to support my tiny art habit!
if you live in austin, you can stop in at the opera house and check out the show until may 25. just promise me you won’t try to eat my masterpiece. ok? ok.
p.s. ryan sent me this fascinating article about another favorite artist, banksy.
Banksy replied, “I originally set out to try and save the world, but now I’m not sure I like it enough.â€
p.p.s. if you haven’t seen stephen colbert’s korean R&B video, ooooh please do.
p.p.p.s. the GFY girls reviewed yet another year of the eurovision song contest. seriously, WHY do american networks drown us in reality television withOUT bringing us this spectacular circus of glitter and cross-dressing?
p.p.p.p.s. another episode of unicorn planet HEYYYYYY! this one features boba tea and watercorns. right.
p.p.p.p.p.s. this p.p.s.ing is really getting out of hand. maybe tomorrow i’ll try a “links” thing at the bottom of my entry. or something.
i totally want to eat the tiny pink cupcake! i’m so proud of you for making yummy-looking tiny art. and while the baby is precious, i really don’t think she should count as “art” so your piece is still the best!
i think your desserts were much more fabulous that the baby. geez… like it takes any work to make a baby cute. all you got to do is carry it around 9 1/2 months- your desserts took precision and integrity and all that stuff.
plus they looked super yummo! my faves were the tiny donuts. cuz i like donuts.
anxiously awaiting newsies post but given that it was sunday, i imagine that is part three of said three part post.
I’m tired of holding you closer. You hold me closer this time!
I want to say first: ART IS EASY! I love this messages via Baskey and you to the little girl. Perfecto.
Next, Maya Bond, I love her, but I don’t like her cray manager. Tell her to go away.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your tiny art. If I were a collector I would purchase it and put in on a pedestal in my foyer. If I had a foyer. Also, get this: Pawel actually WENT to Eurovision. Yeah, bought tickets and flew there and everything. Ah, disposable income.
Your tiny art is so squeelicious! And you look like such a hungry giant next to it!!
EUROVISION ROCKS MY PANTS.
