pieces of silly

i don’t know if it’s the end of summer, or something in the air, or the
alignment of neptune or whatever, but it seems like a lot of people are
going through some crazy/crappy/weird times… so much angst and
confusion. and of course i wish i could fix everything, but i can’t.

i can, however, offer up fun little things on my blog that might make the angst go away, even for just a minute.

for example, my monday got SO much better after i found this site and downloaded some FABULOUS icons such as:

i know it’s a little thing, but new icons make yr computer SO MUCH MORE
FUN. even a drab little filemaker database seems cooler when it’s got a
strong sad icon. and they’ve got transformers and star wars… although
i’m still wading through the pages in search of some yummy food ones.

ok, so this is pretty much the most precious blog on the planet
it’s a little boy named thomas who paints, and his dad types out what
he says. i ADORE thomas (the boy and my car, of course). and his art is
really really great.

examples include the “squeezy pumpkin” (today’s entry):

[i wanna call someone a squeezy pumpkin. heh.]

and he says cute things, like this:

“Crayons and pencils are ok, but they look like a baby did them sometimes.”

thomas has a sister who sounds a lot like me:

“My sister like brownies and pink things. Anything pink.”

yeah yeah yeah!

here is my favorite painting of his so far:

“It’s a T-rex coming down to bite you up! See the teeth?”

anyhoo, i also MUST recommend a dvd that i watched with my friend david
on sunday night. it’s a collection of short films by matt mccormick,
entitled: “from tug boats to polar bears”.
the topics and styles of the films vary, from a beautiful, slow-moving
film about boats on the ocean to the *extremely* clever short on “the
subconcious art of graffiti removal” (narrated by the uber creepy
miranda july). there’s even a documentary about nutria, those nastyass
large rat things that live in swampy places. UGH. did you know that
louisiana created a campaign to get people to EAT NUTRIA?!! no i’m
serious. there was even a bumper sticker that read:

NUTRIA: i ate it. i *liked* it!
NUTRIA: good for you. good for louisiana!

i gotta get me one of those.
