the call of fall

PEOPLE!!! the weather here in h-town is simple gorgeous. the soft winds stroke my face and tickle my nose and whisper gently in the ethereal notes of autumn.

inspite of a lack of autumn leaves (we mostly just get the brown kind here in houston), i lurve this time of year… the weather seeps into my mind and awakens memories of previous autumns, sweaters and peaceful walks, a sense of excitement as change swirls around you. to me, fall has always brought the aroma of foreshadowing… you know that things are afoot, but they may not be ready to show themselves (like little plants hibernating for the winter). fall means people have finally settled in to a new chapter in their lives, but, like any good book, are eager to turn the pages to see what comes next.

fall means… an invitingpile ofbooks, the comforting steam of coffee or tea, urges to write long emails and hear the voices of friends, an extra layer of blankets on yr bed (that may stay at thefoot of the mattresstil december, but just in case!).

fall means… windows down, feeling frisky, little children with little jackets and little hats, apple cider, late nights at the gingerman with no sweat involved.

in celebration, i bought a bag of mellowcreme pumpkins last night. it made me think of the bag i bought last year with seth and julie in california… or the candy jar in the powersuite stuffed with pumpkins and candy corn… or the year when julie and i went to target and bought pumpkins (among many other things) and swore never to go to target together again (for the safety of our wallets).

so i hope you celebrateautumn in your own way the next time you sense that fall feeling in the air, full of comfort and anticipation.

ahh. you all are so right about fall and especially the associated candies. candy corn (and the little pumpkins) totally makes life livable. i firmly believe that the white part taste much better than any other part (same goes for the green stem on the pumpkins). when i was little, hell, last fall, i would sit with a bag of candy corn and three bowls in front of me and break them apart by color (kind of weird now that it’s written), but hey, another fall tradition. enjoy the good weather!
